2023 NSNA Conference Breakout Session Topics

  • New online Admin Review System- NDA has a brand new online AR system that will be used going forward for ARs. This is will be an overview of the new system presented by NDA staff and hearing from SFAs who have been the first to try it out.
  • All About CEP- Come learn about the Community Eligibility Program, how to group schools, what claiming percentages really mean, and what the proposed new rule of a lower ISP could mean for your schools. – Presented by Jessica Sifuentes from Clark CCSD
  • Kitchen skills classes- Chartwells Executive Chefs will be sharing tips, tricks, and knowledge about producing NSLP and SBP meals in the kitchen.
  • Offer versus Serve, The Basics- This class will be a great refresher for those who are seasoned at OVS and for those who are newer to NSLP and what OVS really means when serving students.
  • How do you bring value to the workplace?- Establishing who someone is and the value they bring to an organization are key components of communication in the workplace. In this 1-hour training, participants will explore frameworks and tools they can employ to be more effective at communicating who they are and the value they bring to their organization. Participants will take a “deep dive” into the skills they need to assess and understand their audience, and how to develop an effective introduction for a specific audience. Presented by LEAD Trainings from SNA.
  • Your conflict style inventory - Conflict is common in the workplace and is something many of us look to avoid but having the proper tools to deal with conflict can make all the difference when it eventually arises. This 1- hour training explores five different conflict management styles and how each is used to approach difficult conversations with coworkers and/or stakeholders. This training will provide participants with effective tools to approach conflict in the workplace to achieve more positive outcomes. Presented by LEAD Trainings from SNA.
  • Your Journey , Your Story! Passion, Purpose , and Hope. - Is about passion in what you do, perseverance, partnership and communication.  You are not alone!- Presented by JTM.
  • Special Diets/Allergies Panel Discussion- Do you have questions on how to deal with allergies or special diet requests for SBP and NSLP? Then this is the session for you! We will cover when it’s required to accommodate special diets and allergies and what you can do to help these students.
  • All you Need to Know about Menu Production Records- Production records are every kitchen manager favorite part of the job…we know not really! But they are required and have a specific set of standards for filling them out correctly. This is a refresher course for seasoned staff and a great introduction to those newer to having to fill them out or review them. – Present by NDA staff
  • USDA Professional Standards Trainer Tracker Tool- Professional Standards are another area that needs to be tracked yearly for SFAs. Although NDA allows SFAs to use their own tracker tool, USDA does offer one they have developed. If you have seen it or attempted to use it and it seems daunting or difficult, come learn from districts who use it, like it, and can help you learn to use it as well.- Presented by Elizabeth Martinez, Carson City SD
  • Legislative Update on Proposed New Rules from USDA and What it Means for You Schools- There have been a lot of proposed rules from USDA this year related to NSLP and SBP. This session will cover the latest information on those rules, old legislation like the Keep Kids Fed Act, and how they will affect your meal programs.- Presented by Jessica Sifuentes, Clark CSD.
  • Plus more to come!
